SteveFlesh and
delanthear have been working through the old demo recordings we were making for the second album which we never finshed and have been fixing them up to be good enough for demo releases. For the past couple of months we've been tidying up Castaway:
Castaway (Rough Mix) Dedicated to all the people who voted for the UKIP on Thursday...
Castaway was a bit of an odd track the band was never sure of. Sometimes it just sounded lacklustre, other times in the practice rooms it would really rock! We approached fixing up these demo recordings with some trepidation based on that, and were quite surprised to discover how much we'd actually recorded.
Even better, we discovered a bunch of recorded rhythm tracks labelled as "noise". Turned out, Steve had asked Kelly to record a couple of tracks deliberately loose and noisy sounding.
Looking through the 3 different vocal take sessions, we found a similar set of recordings where Dave was encouraged to try and roar out some of the vocals. Both of these alternative approaches to the track ended up being the ones we selected, because they gave us that much rawer feeling than what we were used it.
This is still a very rough mix. There wasn't solo written for the song so what's in this mix is something Steve threw down in a few hours, and there is quite a bit more mixing and general sound editing we could do, but we felt that what we had was good enough to share.... especially given the current political climate... :)
