I am not a knitter.
The quarter finished scarf I
started knitting well over a year ago is one ugly waste of yarn.
And as for my knitting style, well, it closely resembles a manatee trying to woo a pair of knitting needles.
So I was a little bit surprised when I was reading
a recent Craft Blog post on crochet and found myself swept away in a wave of inspiration and desire.
The last few hours at work dragged by, and as soon as the clock hit 5pm I rushed downstairs to Spotlight (yes. I work FOR Spotlight, directly ABOVE a Spotlight. As you might assume, I "reinvest" most of my paycheck back into the business) and grabbed a ball of wool and a handful of hooks and rushed home.
Apparently it's best to start crochet with 8ply but I prefer to laugh in the face of danger!
Ahahaha!
I grabbed some Cleckheaton 4ply "merino bambino" baby wool and (well I started on a 2.5mm hook but geebus I couldn't see individual stitches) a 3.5mm hook.
I tweeted my first foray into the world of crochet, so for those of you who aren't on Twitter, I thought I would repost here:
- Stand back! I am going to do a crochet.
- I made a chain!
- Oh shoot I dropped my hook!
[15 minute intermission while I chase Leroy around the backyard and loose him in the overgrown shrubbery out back]
- Ok Leroy stole my hook but it's ok cause I bought 2! And now I've made a CIRCLE.
- Ok I crochet like a manatee.
- I think I need more hands to crochet properly. I still feel very uncoordinated but I did my first round of my granny square!
- So... If I keep stitching around and around this granny square, will it just keep growing?
- How big can you make a granny square anyway? Are there rules? Cause I bought a whe ball of wool for this and have most of it left...
- I think that's it for tonight. My poor brain is tired!
I think I'm (are you ready.....) hooked!
And I've finally decided what to do with my granny square, once I figure out how to get it off the hooks - I'm going to make myself a small Care Bear and attach the square to his belly. I think the world could do with a Crochet Bear, what do you think?
