Switcheroo #2 and other issues

Mar 13, 2008 10:45

First off, please make sure that your journals are backed up - here I am referring to SI Main. We are going to be working on the switcheroo over the next couple of days and hopefully we will be up and running again soon!

Secondly and perhaps most importantly DO NOT GIVE OUT INVITATION CODES. The site is not open to the public. Just because you ( Read more... )

i honestly hope i'm not the only one who thinks this way, but isn't suspending all people who came in on invites and sent out invites unnecessary seeing as it was previously unstated (to my knowledge) that it was wrong to do so? i understand just because the page is there doesn't mean it can be used, but there was nothing that stated it couldn't be used, either. frankly, i enjoy the site and would donate to it in the future, but this is the sort of thing that tends to turn people away from journaling sites (see: commiejournal.com, greatestjournal.com and now livejournal.com) your rules are your rules and i understand this very clearly, but it should have been stated somewhere and rather than just up and deleting everyone can't the page simply be removed for invites. i've read back as far as my eyes could handle and i've not seen anything that stated invites were not to be sent and went on the assumption that like most journaling sites, this one was invite only until it was open to the public.

It has been stated numerous times - perhaps not here on livejournal but on Scribblit itself - that scribblit is in beta and is not open to the public. This means that no invitations go out without my permission. It was also in the original terms that beta testers agreed to when they signed up to test. Don't believe me? Check this post

the average user only sees not open to the public as invite only because i've looked around over there and to where you've just linked me and still came up with the same assumption. i'll honestly admit that i have an account because of an invite code i received a few months back without trying to hide that and also that it would be upsetting to lose that account, but again your rules are your rules i only wish there were a simpler answer than suspending/deleting since i've been using the account i had on beta and on the normal site. in any regards, thank you for the prompt response and willingness to speak with us on the matter.

Once again, we are only investigating accounts that have been created on or after March 1.

I commented about a donation I sent when you were allowing people to donate to get an account, and it didn't go through (paypal was being stupid) is there no way I could get an account if I resent the donation? I commented quite a while ago because that's when I realised it never went through (and I've not had Internet access for awhile) but no one replied, just let me know yay or nay either way it's fine.

I can't find my comment with my name and stuff on the donation post, but I emailed the details anyway :(

I've emailed you but not received a reply yet, is there a problem? I don't want to re-send the donation without a reply.

How the progress going? hdofu March 14 2008, 19:58:04 UTC
So as one of the investors in this site, I'm a bit curious as to the progress thus far to seeing the site go public particularly after reading this

As you can see by my latest post we are in the process of getting things set up on a new server.

As a user who made my account in March, I don't think it's fair to have my account deleted. While I realize that you can do whatever you want to the site, it just sounds unfair because not everyone knew that.

I saw someone trading scribblit invites for other usernames on a place on insanejournal, that's where I got mine. I didn't think it'd be a big deal and I don't think people should have them deleted :/

They are not being deleted, they are being suspended.

Mine was deleted.

Granted I receive an invite before they were supposed to be given out, however she wasn’t aware at the time of that. She told me as soon as she found out and I didn’t give any invites out. I was also informed if I added things to my journal that it would be suspended, not deleted. However to my dismay my journal was deleted. I understand the site is not open yet, I was totally fine with the suspended journal, but to be deleted because she wasn’t aware she was allowed to give out the invite codes is not fair to me. Had I known they were not allowed to be given out I wouldn’t have took it and it’s just rude to delete the journals of people who were not aware of the situation. Not like my rant matters, but it needed to be said.

Your account was not deleted by me, I can tell you that right now. I will have Kit look into it.

I was among those who created an account from one of the invite codes sent out this month and feel that it is unfair as neither I nor the person who sent the code to me were made aware that invitation codes were not allowed to be sent out. I was planning on being active withit however due to IRL issues I didn't know my account was already suspended and purged. The username I registered was lucario and I held account #881.

Nothing has been done with the accounts as of yet. However accounts that were created in March will be suspended until the site is open to the public.

I apologize if it seems like I'm contradicting you, however I had tried logging into my journal and received a "username not found" message. I never received any emails warning me of anything happening to my account.

At the time of my comment nothing had been done. Accounts created in March have now been suspended and will be unsuspended when the site is open to the public.
