well, the SF/X were suitably trippy, if a bit repetitive. they're probably worth the IMAX 3D premium. the rest of the movie... not so much.
dïe überblønde saw a quip that that summed up my feelings about the character and the plot: "i liked this movie better when it was iron man.". yup: a self-confident arrogant asshole learns that there's more to life than just just him, and goes on to get supa powwaz. yeah, great.
i'm also tired of origin stories. couldn't we just begin in medias res and have flashbacks or something?
also the time travel bits: it was done better in groundhog day, bill and ted's bogus journey, and galaxy quest. mystic masters™ with dark secrets™ training young whiners™ who refuse to want to buy the clue™® were old when the matrix was made. i realize this last is sticking to the source material, but it's still trite.
verdict: it was better than clicking obsessively on the election results. see if you're a marvel completeist, or if you intend to just watch the pretty colors. skip otherwise.
