I've been wearing matching socks for a whole six weeks now. Normally I have more important things to do than make sure that both socks I grab from my jumbly sock  drawer are the same color or pattern (though I do try to match height and weight, for reasons of sensory symmetry). A head-cold in Alaska sounds like no fun at all. I encountered some cans full of Jamaican sunshine the other day, and if I had any idea how to use to postal system in this country, I would send one to you directly, as it would surely help.

Also, my favorite phrase you used in this entry was "sensory symmetry."
