i have my appointment with the surgeon 
at 11:15 a.m. monday, september 18th.

anything he says will be scary.
and lead to even more difficult health 
and quality of life decisions. 
all of which i have to make on my own. 
oh how i wish my grandmother 
did not have dementia
(in general of course)
so she could be here for me. 
with me.

The doctors will be well used to getting those kinds of questions from both patients and relatives. They know that sometimes it takes a long time for the stuff that seems obvious to them (or to the clued-up patient) to sink in, and they won't think badly of your parents. Going through this experience with you might be an important part of the extent of your problems sinking in for your parents, and it could lead to their being more supportive in future ( ... )
