agreed on the venue, but i'd add that loud things wash terribly and its difficult to pick out anything. for that i also blame the players, but in a perfect world an improviser SHOULD be able to play at any volume necessary, no?
thus, the quiet was a really nice change.
i will give Barry Guy slight redemption for one of the solos he ended up having. but it was just a complete mess most of the time, and i think he was more interested in LOOKING good with the thick eyebrows up and down and the postures etc. i wanted to blame the poor sound for my lack of enjoyment but it was a right mess.
that Thing set was phenomenal. think they ran into curfew? for this i will never forgive Evan Parker.

One really has to wonder if Jazz music wouldn't be doing a little better if it was presented differently. I really don't mind shows that start on time, but the announcers are frequently repellant. Also, I'm never that stoked to be nailed to a chair in a room full of corporate banners
