Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!
"It's hard enough to write a good drama, it's much harder to write a good comedy, and it's hardest of all to write a drama with comedy. Which is what life is."
[1] [BGM 'Kokoro no sora']
Ohh. That's deep, isn't it?
This is a quote by the actor
Jack Lemmon-san. This was sent in by listener Acchi-san. The message reads:
"Ohno-kun, good morning. On
'Arashi ni Shiyagare', when you did improv comedy with
Namase-san, I just laughed without thinking and it made me feel all warm and snug. Ohno-kun, I'm looking forward to your comedic drama."
Ohh. Well, it'll happen someday, right?
Improv acting and all... I often used to do that in the past. Um, it was when I was doing stage acting, I guess? They got some foreign director in. We did nothing but workshops. It wasn't just about learning lines. We only did that about 2 weeks before the actual performances.
So every day, for about 4 hours, we'd listen to the director's stories. The translator would be translating for about 4 hours. So it'd be like, this word has this sort of meaning.
After listening for about 4 hours, it'd be like, "Right, shall we put it into practice?" and it'd be like, "First, let's read through this scene," and we'd read it. "The important part about this scene is the panic. You've got to bring that out."
"Right. So first, I'm going to stand in front of you. You've got to make me go away within a minute. GO!"
So you couldn't touch him; you had to only use words.
Suddenly being told to do that was... It'd was embarrassing to say stuff like, "Move aside!"
Then the staff were like, "10 more seconds," and then I was like, "Eh? Crap, he's not moving!" I had to do something fast; they were counting down.
"9..." "Move move move!"
"8..." "MOVE MOVE!" It was like talking to myself.
"And 0!" "Ahhh!"
"Well, you might not have been able to make me go away, but it's that feeling. You felt panicked, right? That's what you have to express in the scene."
"Well, certainly. I see," I thought. But it was so annoying! Just being told that out of the blue. I certainly thought so, but... Mm.
So well, I was young. If it happened now, I'd hate that but I'd understand why I was being told that. Back then, I was like, "What the heck!?!"
I remember that. Back then I kept a journal, too. So it was interesting. My journal back then.
Like, X month X date...
"Today was improv as well. We listened to him talk for a few hours, then it was practice. He picked me to do (stuff like what I just described). I was really pissed off today." (laughs)
That's what I wrote. (laughs)
Well, it was a good thing that happened. But probably... I'd like to listen to the radio episodes from 10 years ago during the day of that practice. I was so irritated. I'd like to go home and have a drink while I listen to it.
With your favour please! (laughs)
That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
