Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!

"Discontent is the first step in the progress of a man or a nation." [1]

[BGM 'Kokoro no Sora']

This is by the Irish author of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', Oscar Wilde-san. Discontent stems from when there is some restriction, so when there is action taken to remove that, there is progress.

Right, so are you discontent? As far as I'm concerned. Go ahead and say it. I'll immediately apologise. (laughs)

Man, what I think is... Well, really, you know mosquitoes, right? To be bitten by mosquitoes. Those blood-sucking mosquitoes.

Are those necessary?? Well, to humans, that is. To humans, are mosquitoes really necessary?

Or rather, I wonder if there are any people who like them. Like maybe people who like being bitten by mosquitoes and enduring the itch? I don't think there are any!

Mm. I mean, there are all sorts of mosquitoes, right? There's a possibility they might transmit diseases to you, right? Why do they suck blood, I wonder?

Well, if you wanna put it that way, there's been mosquitoes around long before I was born. So they're the most senior of sempai.

Honestly, I do respect them, actually. Like, they suck (blood) really well. They survive on fluids that they get from that needle that's thinner than a single hair, right? So that's like what you get from drinking from a straw that's thinner than a hair. So I think the fact they're able to suck through that is pretty miraculous. They manage to get fluid through that! Their sucking powers must be incredible.

So honestly, I do respect them. It's just that, you can suck if you want, but I'm begging you, please don't make it itch! That's all. Like I wish it wouldn't swell or anything. So like, I wish mosquitoes would be disinfected. Before they bite you. I think that'd be the biggest step in progress.

And then... flies. Where did they come from?

Long ago, when I was fishing, we went pretty far out into the open sea. Like we could still see islands, but we were ridiculously far out. So we were fishing for squid there. We were grilling them to eat. Then flies started to appear. 'Eh? Where did you come from??'

Man, the only thing I can think of is that they were hidden on the boat all along, but they couldn't have been. I mean, if we're saying they flew in all along the whole time, with such intense waves smashing on the boat, they couldn't have been hidden, right? And they couldn't have been hidden in some cracks somewhere all along, right? They're flies, after all.

That's what I thought. But the moment there was even a whiff of it... They've got incredible noses, I think. Yeah. Rather than discontent, it's respect!

Um, living things are wonderful, aren't they? They have loads of things that humans don't. I respect that!

That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
