I has questions (again)!
(1) Currently I'm only posting this to my Arashi flist (which isn't very big because I'm antisocial, eheh). Given the recent discovery of the person selling ANM's (and other teams') subs on a forum somewhere, do you think I should still post this to other LJ communities?
As if I wasn't already misanthropic enough, something like this has to happen. Why doesn't s/he get it? Even if s/he didn't care that s/he was spoiling the fun for everyone else, doesn't it occur to her/him that breaking the rules of the sub teams merely means that the teams will either make it even harder to access subs or maybe even stop subbing entirely? *sighs* Well, not like I care if sub teams stop, since I don't actually need subs anymore... Decided to try having faith in fandom. Let's play nice and not profit from/redistribute/stream subs, Y/Y?
(2) This was just to see if I could actually time/typeset/encode. Possible translation errors aside (though corrections are welcome too), any constructive criticism about my subbing?
And here comes the tl;dr part~ XDD
Of all the subs you've watched, what do think about stuff like:
- including personal comments on vids
- preferred video formats (and why)
- not subbing the introduction/recap bits of shows
- not subbing captions that appear onscreen
- poor grammar/spelling/English
- fonts you like / dislike
- your opinion on karaoke effects + including kanji/romaji
- Japanese in the Eng translation (eg senpai, onegaishimasu, -san/-chan/-kun etc)
- anything else you want to rave/rant about
You don't have to address ALL of these, but what works / doesn't work for you?
Just interested because nobody really talks about these things, but I feel there's a sort of unspoken consensus on what makes a 'high quality' sub. Personally, I'd rather save a raw than a sub I don't like. Poor English puts me off the most, followed by flashy karaoke effects. That said, I find I'm also put off by excessively un-Japanese translations too - like the Ohoku manga, for example. I know it's not a sub (yet), but all the thee-ing and thou-ing and archaic English got on my nerves and I ended up reading the raws instead XDD
