Wow.

Ok, this is by far the coolest thing I have seen in the videogame world since the Wii first came out.

wow. a potentially WORKING VR situation.
I never thought I'd see the day.
Now, if you're REALLY cool, you mount the IR beams into a stereo headset on the ear pieces (as the ear pieces would be in the same plane as your eyes) and you're good to go without looking like you're getting ready to grind metal :)
There is actually a video game that supports head tracking that I played, but it wasn't this cool. It's called GT Legends.

http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ and apparently they already thought of my headset idea... :(

but - does the headset do virtual surround? because if they can play with the sound balance to make your view position affect your listening position, i think i'll fill the cup...

from the demo I played: yes, it does
The demo I played was a full UNIT. So, you wore a tracking device and headphones and sat in a hydraulically controlled 'car' in front of an ENORMOUS screen (61") that moved WITH the car.
So, yeah. it was pretty effing trippy.

and that virtual surround is built into the game.
If you've ever played a racing game with a dual analog stick, you use the right stick to change the way you are looking, so the sound shifts to fit (see: Forza 2)
