The building that was commonly reffered to as a the Jolly Green Giant's john was the MainStage Theater, then called Little Theater. The grid above the stage was very tall to allow flying out large scenery on the counterbalanced baton system. The auditorium house was not as tall, though it was build wide and round to accommodate the largest possible audience and still maintain good accoustics. The result? The theater looked like a giant toilet facing Cooper St. In 1967, two fraternity pledges even built a shiny silver handle for the "toilet" as a prank.

The MainStage Theater is now engulphed in the Fine Arts building, built in 1975. The fact that the FA building was built around the pre-existing theater explains why one must go up or down a few stairs to get to almost any of the theater entrances to from the FA building.

That is hilarious. Wish they had left the "handle" on.
