TWo quarts of cream and all those eggs. Oh my.

I used to make homemade egg nog for my grandfather but I don't have a clue where that recipe is now. Yours is a very different one from mine!

My grandmother and her sisters each would make this eggnog every New Year's Day. They all lived within blocks of each other in South Philadelphia, and the tradition was that the women stayed at home that day, and "sat in honor", and the men would go from house to house, and pay their respects. She'd go through bowls of this eggnog, and dozens of cookies. It would turn into a unspoken competition between the women as to who had the best eggnog and cookies.

We kids loved it, as all the uncles and male cousins came by. They each slide us dollar coins, and tell us not to tell our parents. Kids made out like BANDITS :)

Not to mention that we went home stuffed full of datenut bars, honey cookies, biscotti, pizelles, and sips of eggnog we'd pilfer :)

Now thats a delightful holiday memory! Thanks for sharing it!

Did you own doxies as a kid too? If you did, did you ever dress them up for Christmas?

I did! And one year, we had a santa coat and hat for Willie (named after the then-chancellor of Germany!) I'm sure there are photos *somewhere*, but I haven't found them yet. Probably at my mom's house.

We don't dress these babies up much - they end up removie the clothes from each other, like they're toys!

I would totally drink this. I'm one of the very few in my family that even touches the stuff.

I saw a link for your pesto, and thought that looked so good that I checked out the tomato sauce. And that looked solid (though fairly different from the sauce I used to make back in the day), so I just HAD to check the recipe tag. And lo and behold -- Christmas in July! I have yet to see a single recipe that doesn't make me extremely hungry (or thirsty, as the case may be). :)
