Bad Backs I Know...elanurelMay 25 2006, 17:34:02 UTC
If he can stand it, I've always had really good luck using heat/cold therapy. I would alternate between a heating pad and an ice pack every fifteen minutes for at least an hour every day. (The cold always bothered me more than the heat did.) It really is effective in controlling the pain without medication.
I'd also recommend that he use a pillow to help support his back while it heals, so he can take some of the strain off his spinal cord. (The other option is to lose weight, which I don't think J needs to do. ;-P )

i let him use my heating pad, but it just stopped working. and he has been using a pillow underneath his back for support. no he could stand to lose a little weight (hence him working out every night that he can-monday night workout and woke up on tuesday and couldn't get out of bed cause of his back), but i don't think that is where the back problem lies.
ps. thanks for your consideration of me and how frazzled i am!!!! i am just kidding kelsus is a lot worse off than i am hence the whole me running to his house every night and yesterday morning!!! and it was my choice to be a good friend and take care of him!!!! lol!!!! you have a good day and congrats again on losing 50 pounds!!!!!!

I didn't, either. ;-P That's the only other way to get strain off your back that I know of...and I was just being my usually geeky self by mentioning it.
And thanks again! I keep saying that I can't take all the credit, because the weight really started coming off when I started taking the new medication. It's actually slowing down now, so it's back to the gym for me to start building up muscle. ;-P (I've been side effect free for two weeks, so I think three months was the magic number as far as getting used to the medication was concerned.)
