With a very heavy heart, I'm sad to post news of the passing of Ian McAllister Landlord of The Beer Engine, formerly of the White Friars, Browns and the The Sir Colin Cambell. The Beer Engine had to be broken into and he was found in bed on Friday. Suspected cause is asthma ( Read more... )

My gods, I'd forgotten about that! Were the kazoos a regular thing then? I remember a great night matching that description, but I seem to recall it being at the Beer Engine rather than the Friars.

I have a feeling it might have been _gh0st_'s leaving do too, but that could just be my memory merging lots of top nights into one.

There were many nights with kazoos, Martin was the only one who ever really managed to get a decent tune out of one, though it didn't stop a great many other people trying. :-) There were nights that sounded like a dozen ducks had been thrown in to a washer on a spin cycle.

I did a mean rendition of "Drunken Sailor" and was just getting into Kazoo improvisational free jazz.

I'm gutted...
