A "movie bomb" question

When they're disarming bombs in movies, why don't they just pull the blasting cap(s) out of the explosive and separate them from the explosive

Did you see "Lost" last night? That bomb went off, killed at least one character, and there was no red timer. Phooey on your bomb theory! lol...

I always just assumed that the bomb was so sensitive that if they did anything like that it'd just explode instantly.

Ummm.... Lost is a TV show, not a movie.
A TV show is not a movie (unless they make it a movie, in which case they almost always do it wrong).
