I'm so sorry to hear this about Gran. (I did see your FB post, and know enough to realize just how serious a broken hip can be to someone her age. Sadly, I'm not surprised by the doctor's prognosis.)

Did he explain the spinal anesthetic to you? I had one when I had a C-section many years ago. That allowed me to be awake for the procedure but it numbed me from the chest down. I ended up sleeping from it eventually, but it was a more natural sleep.

Yes, I was familiar with the spinal. I was really surprised that they used it for the hip surgery. Though I suppose it makes sense since it wasn't a hip replacement.
