Dolce Enough

Jan 05, 2012 07:28

Even though I'm off work until January 9th, this hasn't been a very restful vacation period: there's been two bouts of hosting/entertaining, separated by two bouts of home renovation (at my place and my S.O's place), and peppered with freelance work. I've got two guests asleep in a bedroom, a tidy garden, and a freshly painted guest room. The ( Read more... )

Yay being off work! Sorry you're so busy, but it sounds like the good kind of busy. (And thank you for your help on my thing!)

The extremely busy is done now. Tomorrow I get to be normally busy, such as going to a nautical naughty-gal pin-up shoot by the sea. And I was happy to help with your thing - now I'm all tense/excited, too.

I love the idea of la dolce vita NZ style. :) I can relate too, as I've just discovered power-sanding and am painting our houseover my holiday. It sounds like you're having a pretty nice holiday over all, and the photographs and descriptions of your SO's home town and home beach were beautiful.

I think la dolce vita NZ style involves Barbecues On The Deck and lots of beverages, too. There's a beach a short walk away, and a vegetable garden that is magically productive yet requires only the amusing minimum of maintenance. Inside, the house is filled with serious art for more serious moments, a deep freeze full of "homekill" and the results of fishing expeditions, and a very large flat-panel TV.

Oooo, what colors are you painting? My guest room now has a cream ceiling and very palest ashes-of-roses walls. It's south-facing and cold, so it needed all the hue help it could get.

La doce vita Tassie style looks remarkably similar to NZ. :) There may be local markets for food or antiques depending on your fancy as well.
I like the idea of ashes of roses - pretty! I've been concentrating on the outside, painting the house a pale grey-blue with white trim. However this has struck another problem yesterday when I realised I had just applied a power sander to flakey paint and uncovered red lead primer. :( I felt so stupid for not realising that of course it would be there...
Inside, we're just starting to think about it. But with a lounge room painted custard yellow and purple, with varnished wood panelling, I think we can safely say that it needs it!

Of course, how could I forget the morning spent at the farmer's market picking out affordable yet splendid produce and noshing on gourmet/rustic goodies?

Oh my. Sorry about the lead primer - how old is your house again? From here, without any photos, I am reflexively trying to come up with new paint colors for your lounge.

Yup, nothing like the good kind of busy; I've spent the day sorting through all my craft/sewing stuff. Getting it all organised.

I look forward to the renovations when complete!

Mmmm, yes, organizing the sewing kipple, so pleasant.

It's not the most transformative renovation - it just looks nice and fresh. I'm sure you'll see it!

I envy you.

Right now, I'm doing nothing more ambitious than clearing out the deck of my trailer. The cats are quite bewildered.

Ah, cats and space. Who was it who said dogs belong to people, cats belong to houses?

If I could look forwards at this time last year into the future, I would've envied me too...it's amazing how things can change.
