New song's done, a little indy pop experiment:
Ah, He Was Almost Perfect You and I together by the lakeside
I can see it in your eyes, you want more, you want more
(so sensitive, full of life, wants lots of kids, and a working wife
makes me laugh, & his hands are rough, he's never really good enough for me)
Maybe you'll take up a brand new hobby
Like knitting scarves or drinking rum til you forget it's your birthday
Maybe I won't notice that your sleeves are damp
You're hiding under an umbrella when it hasn't been raining, ooooh
(every time I look away I'm not sure that he'll be there .. but secretly I hope not)
She takes the bus across the lake
She asks the questions that keep her awake
She finds the answers in a book
She hides the cover underneath a magazine
You and I together by the lakeside
I can see it in your eyes, you want more, you want more
You and all the not-enoughs you left behind
with clever nicknames on the wall you kept a record of your sabotage
(so sensitive, full of life, wants lots of kids, and a working wife
Makes me laugh, & his hands are rough, he's never really good enough for me
he's never really good enough for me)
Ok people, with that my genre experimentations are on hold and I'm going to start a rock opera for real I promise this time. I'm extremely satisfied with the last song two songs I did, how long they took me to write and record, how I've gotten the various programs and instruments and stuff to finally work together in a way that isn't a total chore, and how I don't think the lyrics suck complete ass. Stylistically I think I've got a few songs that work for me and aren't so totally derivative. I feel good.
I've done at least one song's worth of:
* latin jazz
* fugue
* bossa nova
* techno
* barbershop
* piano rock
* blues rock
* garage punk pop rock soup
* rock ballad
* rocknroll rock
* rockabilly
* indy pop
I don't know.. I think maybe it's time I stopped fucking around, you know?
Anyway, to help me brainstorm rock opera ideas, please leave a comment with a list, a list of 'things that are awesome'. Because one thing a rock opera should be is awesome, and simple rules of addition dictate that the more things that are awesome that are included in a rock opera the more awesome the rock opera is.
