Tyki parked in front of the building and scanned the skyline. Fuck, there were Akuma here, too. he could see their irregular, bulbous shapes hanging here and there between the buildings.

As he stepped out of Hakuba's world-hopping car, one of the second-levels drifted towards him.

"Noah-sama...Noah-sama~ We kill for the Duke."Yes, yes, good for ( Read more... )

Tyki drew back as if slapped. "I... can't believe you would ask that of me," he said. If his complexion hadn't been dusky, a flush might have been visible upon his cheeks.

"Already I don't understand why my Duke hasn't warned me of his plans to invade other worlds. You would have me confirm his suspicions about me? No!"

He folded his arms across his chest. "I...I must go to him, once I have placed you and the others somewhere safe, and I must find out why he's done this. I'll convince him that this is foolhardy, that it is wrong to spread our forces so thin."

Zechs' chest experienced a terrible twisting sensation at his lover's words. No, he thought, looking pained. Before Christmas, this wouldn't have surprised him at all, these words. And even now, surprised wasn't quite the word. But since losing his Noah, Zechs suspected Tyki was slowly changing. There had been a few times, even, where the man had claimed he no longer wanted to kill. Such was very different than a man who once had said killing humans was fun, and pleasurable. The pained reaction left a mark on his face.

"No," he finally said aloud. He took a step forward, willing Tyki to stay, to not draw away further from him. "I am not asking it of you. I am asking it for your own sake, my dearest. Please."

"Don't go to your Duke as a supplicant. Do you wish him to succeed now in his goals? Even when limited to your own Earth?"

If Tyki looked like he had been slapped, Zechs began to look more and more afraid. Such was an extremely foreign expression upon his face. Fiercely, he said, "The Duke has done this for one reason. He hates ( ... )

Tyki found it difficult to meet his lover's eyes, to see the pain in them. He knew, somewhere in the back of his mind, that one day they would have this argument. He had always known it, and he feared so deeply that Zechs would reject him ultimately that he could scarcely think and consider his words ( ... )

Stepping forward again, aching to be in arm's reach of Tyki, Zechs cleared his throat quietly, feeling it go dry. There was no derision or disdain within his features. Perhaps, even, there was understanding. Despite his words, he did feel he knew exactly how his lover felt now, how twisted and conflicted he must feel. "You won't be able to convince him, not with your love of humanity ( ... )

Tyki stared at the floor. He didn't want to believe it. He didn't want to listen to his lover's words. But he couldn't ignore them, either.

To ignore them would be to push Zechs away, to leave him and run into the arms of his Duke, and he couldn't do that. He could reside in both, but he couldn't give up Zechs' arms.

When had he gotten to the point where he was willing to leave the Earl behind for his lover? He had no idea. It had happened so gradually that he hadn't even noticed. But Zechs' words rang true.

But he was afraid to open his mouth and respond, afraid that he would agree. He stared at the floor, not retreating from Zechs but not moving forward. His arms were still folded and his fingers white-knuckled as they clenched his arms.
