When first hearing Tyler's voice on the phone River smiled. Berthold had woken her up early by trying to tickle her until she gave up and brought him some ice cream, which had been annoying. Seeing Tyler on the other hand was something she had been looking forward to. She wanted to tell him about Proty and how Pippi and brought the octopus back to life.
But there was something in Tyler's voice that bothered her.
Don't read his mind, don't read his mind River kept telling herself on the way to Tyler's room.
Tyler let her touch his hand for a second, and then pulled it back. But the smile got a tiny bit realer; maybe things would be okay. "Hey. I kind of needed to talk to you."
He ran a hand through his hair. "Can I ask you about something?"
River looked up at him, a smile still remaining on her face. Then in an instant it was gone, and she spun around, her arm outstretched and ready to strike.
Tyler blinked, momentarily surprised, then kicked off his shoes and shifted into fight stance in one smooth motion. "If you're gonna hit me, hit me. Or go paint yourself a boyfriend."
Alec let himself in sometime in the morning, checking as always to make sure there were no notes on the whiteboard hanging on the door - not that he actually expected one this early in the morning, but you never knew. "Roomie, you asleep?"
