It began with a fucking ridiculous line of cars, but once that hell had passed the party began. I made friends with my camping neighbors almost immediately and they were such awesome people. I barely even slept the first night, but I still pushed on through most of the first day.
Day 1
I started off with Kate Miller Heidke who was absolutely incredible. Humor and opera combined "you want to be friends on facebook? are you fucking kidding me?". I wasn't into POS live as much as I liked what I had heard before. So I took a break and came back in time for Iglu and Hartly who totally rocked.
I had been going pretty much solo to this point. During As Tall As Lions I finally got a hold of Scott and was able to catch Perry Farrel vs. Steve Porter. Unfortunately it was so good that I had to dance all my energy out which made me too tired for deadmau5 later that night.
I split up from Scott to see Yeasayer, where I ran into Karin's friend Sierra. She had always been pretty anti social so it was no surprise that she had very few words to say before scurrying off. Good set though from Yeasayer.
Once again I was solo, but I caught She and Him next where I made friends with someone from Chicago. I suggested he check out the Specials where we headed to next, which was by far the best band of the day. This Jonathan fellow and I split up because I wanted to check out Them Crooked Vultures, but I couldn't really get into it.
I finished up my day with Erol Alkan and Benny Banassi, but I didn't have it in me to dance much. I considered getting E to make it through, but I just called it a day instead. I just relaxed back at my campsite where I could still hear Vampire Weekend Luckily.
Day 2
I had snuck in some rum that I barely touched until the morning of the second day. I went through about half of it which was probably a bad idea. After laughing my ass off to John Waters set and rocking out to Portugal the Man (they did an awesome cover of Moonage Daydream!) I ended up passing out most of the day. I returned in time for Faith No More and I'm so glad I did, because this was a fucking amazing reunion.
MGMT blew me away with their classics and had a couple new songs that I really enjoyed. I just couldn't get into most of their new stuff. Went down to see Major Lazor, another great set to dance to (the only dancing I got in that day other than Faith No More).
Saw Les Claypool, but they thought they were too cool to play actual music most of the time so it was a bit disappointing. When they did play it was good, but there were these long drawn out periods that didn't sound like anything worth listening to.
Tiesto sucks, nuff' said.
Day 3
The final day had to start it off right. "No Drinking" I told myself, today had too many good sets I couldn't miss. Before I started my day at the festival I met up with Andrew Dey and Lindsey Dolen who suggested the idea of drinking, so we drank, d'oh!
We got there in time for Rusko where I spent all my energy way too early once again. I pretty much crashed through Deerhunter and Sunny Day Real Estate, but I met up with Shaudee briefly before my phone died. I lost Andrew and Lindsey too when I went to get food. I did have the misfortune of encountering Becsi which was disturbing to say the least, but I need not go into a rant about his sliminess. I quickly escaped that awkward situation to see Julian Casablancas. I was lucky enough to run into Cam despite not being able to call him, but we were going to different stages.
I knew Lindsey and Andrew were going to be at Orbital, so I waited by that stage for them. My ex crossed my path which put me in a bad mood since I still couldn't get a hold of anyone to keep me company with my phone being dead and all. So after sulking and waiting for Andrew and Lindsey for about an hour, Sierra pops out of nowhere again to say hi, which caught me by total surprise. I ended up hanging out with her the rest of the time.
We checked out Pavement, Thom Yorke, and Gorillaz. Every single one of them were fucking awesome. It was a great Coachella and I'm happy for all the friends I made there, quite a wonderful experience.
