Trip downtown on Sunday

May 01, 2007 15:00

iingaartist and I went on the architecture cruise on Sunday, and then did a little wandering after. I'd never been to the Chicago Cultural Center, so she showed me where it was and we wandered around in there for a bit.

Here are some pictures of the day. More pictures are found on my Flickr account (www.flickr.com username tylure).

Oh, awesome. I no longer regret forgetting my camera because these came out so much better than mine would have anyway. (I checked out all the flicker pics too.)

If you want a copy of all of them (including what didn't make it onto Flickr) I can burn you a CD.

That'd be cool. I'd love to see them all.

cool pics!! Now that I've finally been to Navy Pier, I'd like to go eyeball the architecture someday. ^_^

Apparently the Cultural Center offers free walking tours. There is the architecture cruise (well worth it...I've been 5 times now). And there are bus tours in the summer.

No large cities near you? Or just no interesting things?

toronto's an hour by car, i'm going this summer. its been too cold for me to spend any time outside, immobile with ungloved, numb fingers, while i fiddle with those minute camera buttons.

I've only been to Toronto once, and that was in December of 1994. I know it was pretty cold then. It'd be an interesting city to photograph, though.

I love the pictures, they look great. Can't believe how tall some of them look, I'm sure the view from the top would be something to see ;)

There are a lot of tall buildings in Chicago and they are currently building more. Trump Tower will be the third tallest when it is finished and they are also getting ready to build something called The Spire, which looks like a really fat, twisted birthday candle. It will be taller than Sears Tower when it's done, so rumors claim.

I want to go to the observation deck at Handcock Center soon. I've been up in Sears Tower, which was cool but pricy. I have some film photos somewhere from that trip.

Is this Chicago's devious attempt to give people neck ache looking up and to keep all vertigo sufferers out of the city? ;)

Well, they haven't kept me out yet, and I don't really care for open-air heights. ;) I think it's just their devious attempt to make us all feel small. And to see if they can create the most intense between-building wind tunnels on the planet. ;)
