there're only so many

ways to say goodbye

across more than 1,000

miles to a place not

a person

to the quartz laden

soil where we buried

two dogs and

two cats

i still remember them

clearly, their furs

pressed against

my childhood

now they feed

the raspberry bushes

and the forsythia

that filled the

vases and pies

of several
