You're gonna think I've gone mental, but I read once with literal meaning in mind. Then it occured to me that the middle three stanzas (is that what they're called? I don't remember) could speak of her stardom in itself, and what she did with it. No one knew about her going down or coming up, getting used to crouching...on her knees, casting couch, etc. Spilling herself, where everyone could see the bad things about her. Sounds to me like so many starlets, Lilo, etc. And then she escapes, flushed it away, and comes out clean. I guess even the last bit fits, in the aftermath of her popularity.
Did I just steal the romance from this? I'm sorry. I just loved seeing it in a different way, because I usually take things so very literally, and this just flew out at me.
