Present Day

Two Months After the Fall of S.H.I.E.L.D.

When Sam Wilson had volunteered to help Steve find his friend Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier, a.k.a. the man who'd torn the wings right off his back, a.k.a. the man who'd nearly murdered all of them...well, he'd just wanted to help. Love your Sam's POV in this, and his fear for Steve. I also love how legitimately Steve is slowly falling apart, and how Sam is doing his best to help him stay together. I'd personally never thought before that Steve had, if not exactly killed himself with the plane, purposely allowed himself to go down with it. It seems to be fanon in a lot of places, and stories like this one make me see how easily it could be.

I look forward to more.

It's funny, even though I wrote that as Sam's point of view...I myself don't believe it 100%. I don't think Steve boarded that plane with the intention of never coming back. But, I think he didn't *care* whether he came back or not. Suicidal in a sense! His choice of words seemed to suggest that too, when he told Peggy "this is my choice," echoing what she'd said about Bucky.
Bucky was definitely on Steve's mind.
Thanks for reading! Glad you like it! :)
