Hey, I need a little help, some outside thoughts, etc.

Decision Tree for Jaqls

Current Jorb

I will contribute a few blips of thought, but please do bear in mind that they're from someone who's been working the same gig his entire adult life so far, and salt them accordingly!

1. Fuck Geico right in the ear. If you were desperate, maybe; when you're desperate, you do what you have to do. The negatives on this one sound really bad, though, to the point that the pay bump does not balance them out. From my perspective, staying where you are is preferable ( ... )

1. Sigh. Just wish I could earn so much elsewhere.

2. Feels like the thing to do in many ways. Just need more moneyyyy. Can hope it works out better, though..

3. Drivin' jaql! Just need to learn stick shift. Hoboy.

4. I feel bad turning down other things, but..

5. Thank you, I hope the same! And if I don't do anything, at least I'll get to come see you come Anthrocon. :>

Actually, I applied to Progressive earlier just for that reason. But that was last year, I could shoot them another.

>Terrible GBLT record - 0->15% HRC score, contributes to awful causes, does not protect GBLT workers, would totally be fired if I transitioned so far as I can tell.

Damnit, really?

This really makes me reconsider my car insurance provider. I don't like contributing to ignorant hateful fucktards.

Not to mention making me wait a ridiculous amount of time to get accident damage assessed.

Thing is, for the most part, I think they are just /cheap/, and would avoid paying for a domestic partner on that level. The people at the office itself arn't fucktards, possibly just because they're typical Seattlites, but, that is just based on my impressions visiting them. Doesn't mean they can really protect me from the company at large, though.

From these options, I personally would stick with the current position. You have good health benefits, can meet your financial needs, and have very strong union protections for the position. If you are enjoying the position and good at it, that is a HUGE positive benefit that outweighs a lot of things. It is rare these days to find a job that you like, that isn't just a giant ball of stress. UPS is also one of the last places it seems like where you have a real pension system, and so can retire out of it at a reasonable age with a reasonable income and have the freedom to pursue whatever you want to do.

I just need more hours and the like where I'm at. And I may enjoy it less when or if my coworker gets back, but it's not terrible!

Hello hello,

Like mmsword said, you're in a good position: you have a decent, secure, non-crazy-making job and can use that as a platform to see if something better is out there. That's a really nice place to be.

I think you have a pretty clear idea of the pros and cons of your current options already. One thing I would say is: since you have options, steer clear of things which are going to give you trouble later. In particular, from what you say about Geico's LGBT policies it's more or less inevitable that you'll run into problems. Management track means nothing if they fire you a couple of years down the line.

Yeah. I just needed someone other than my own self to paw through this, lest I decline a job then spend time second guessing myself later.
