So, I'm not really that much of a religious person. I attend church from time to time, I take my son to sunday school and confromation classes at the same Lutheran Church that I've been a member of all of my life. It is kind of a casual relationship I have with the congregation. If someone calls to ask me to babysit during a service or usher or whatever, I'm happy to help out. That kind of thing. I enjoy our pastor. We used to have a lady pastor too, which I really didn't like at all. But the one we have right now, I like him. He's extremely friendly and down-to-earth. Very open to lots of things.
So why am I going on and on about my church? Well, I saw this article today and I have to admit that I'm rather pleased that the ELCA (which is the organization that my church belongs to) is thinking about this issue. Here is the article:
http://www.argusleader.com/article/20090220/NEWS/902200318/1001/rss01 For those who don't want to click on it, the ELCA might be considering the issue of allowing homosexual couples to lead congregations. There's some rule about not having sex outside of marriage for the pastors or somesuch. Whatever. I greatly approve of them confronting this issue and hopefully moving beyond things.
As a side note, the legislators of my state are ignorant asses. They voted down a bill adding homosexuality to the hate crimes law because they didn't want to single out another group for 'special treatment'. Whatthehellever. My state can be so bass ackwards. You know, like our governor not going to Obama's inaguration and blaming wanting the state to save money. Seriously? Come on. I had a great respect for him until that. You go and greet the new president even if the people in our state didn't vote for him (even though I did and most of the people in my county did too). You have to deal with him for at least four years, start your networking now. And I see that the legislature is so very, very happy to get some money from the stimulus package, didn't complain about that at all. Amazing how that works.
Okay, done. Sorry. It's been awhile. Back to your regularly scheduled idleness!
