In response to this article "5 Reasons Why 'The Dark Knight Rises' Is Better Than 'The Avengers' " (

I give you "5 Reasons Why That Article Is Wrong!"
** Spoiler Alert for "The Dark Knight Rises"
1. The Avengers have a Hulk.
The Avengers have a Hulk. Yeah! Let me say it again, "A Hulk!"
2. The Black Widow, Pepper Potts, and Agent Maria Hill.
Is Anne Hathaway the better actor? Probably, but I don't want to watch a movie about her Catwoman. I'd pay twice to see Johannsson as the Black Widow. The Dark Knight series treats women as accessories. The Avengers have 3 strong women roles; all of whom kick ass. Potts may be treated like the stay at home wife; always worrying about whether her man will come back whole after battle. Potts, is the stay at home wife that runs a multi-billion dollar company. I see you one thief and raise you a CEO.
3. I'd rather have a beer with Loki.
Loki aptly named after the god of mischief. What little brother or sister didn't relate when Loki was so giddy at the sight of Iron Man kicking Thor's ass! I like Loki's story. He's the adopted son of king in a family of which he will never be good enough! He's arrogant and is undeniable in his quest for power. He makes no apologies for his quest. It's not a lofty goal as to remake the universe into something better. Loki is in it for himself. I can get behind that in a villan. When I learned Bane's motivation I was surprised but not unduly so. Miranda was set up to be the villain. She was more plot point assist than major villain. Nolan decided that the audiences would buy an obvious male villain not the pissed off daughter of Wayne's very first arch enemy. As villains go I much rather watch Loki on the screen. Sensual, arrogant, and humorous, Tom Hiddleston's performance is entertaining as well as layered. Although I'd give Tom Hardy massive points for his interpretation of Bane.
4. The Avenger's Director is better at ensemble casts.
Nolan's Dark Night is all about Bale. The rest of the cast had to be good because they really were just plot devises to bring along the character driven story that is The Dark Knight series. Fox is his conscious, Alfred his sounding board, the Commissioner his tool, and the toys his id. What about the women in his life? Camouflage. The billionaire uses them to fulfill the expected image of Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy. The constant see-saw of his feelings for Rachel. Yet never being man enough to take the next step. He can protect her but he can never own up to the fact that he loves her. So heavy the responsibility of her life. Never giving Rachel the benefit of deciding for herself whether she can handle what it means to be with him. So fragile is Wayne's affections for Rachel that Alfred had to protect him from the truth. Let's look at the other the two women introduced in to Bruce's life in "Rises." Selina is a sexual fantasy come to life. She is also a mirror image of himself. The other woman, Miranda is mother savior. Miranda, the one who redeems Wayne and his company. All in all these women are portrayed as strong but they are one dimensional because the story is about Wayne. So we never see what drives these women other than the obvious reveals that helps the plot along.
Avengers for the strong female win!
5. Robert Downey Jr.
Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.
Wait, wait, wait just a minute, isn't Bruce Wayne the same in many ways? Yes, and Bale is no Downey. The humor and vulnerability that Downey manages to portray in Stark makes all of Stark's other obnoxious and arrogant qualities lovable. Where as Bale's portrayal of Wayne just makes Batman's alter ego an obnoxious asshole. In "Rises" Bruce Wayne is a pathetic and obnoxious asshole.
In the end I'd base all my reasons on repeat watching. Which movie would I watch again?
Hands down The Avengers, a sense of humor, lots of eye candy, and strong women. Oh yeah, they have a HULK!
