Poor Game Design RAGE (vent)

I love Majora's Mask. I've been playing it for the first time over the last month or so since I discovered it was available on the Wii... but tonight... I'm just left a seething ball of hate because of a simple game design flaw in the game that is too colossal to ignore ( Read more... )

Heheh, I recall that quest from when I played in middle school. I ended up having to use one try to memorize where every alien was and then go back and run through their exact locations. The time thing has always been what people hated about majora's mask, and I can understand it, though I still revere the game itself. One of the best Zelda ever made in my own opinion. It's the only one i took the time to 100%

I remember that one. I recall having exactly the same reaction when I failed it the first time. I was surprised that it was much harder than the initial training, due to aliens spawning behind the barn. (And just to rub it in, they placed another sub-quest directly dependent on the events afterward, which wasn't quite as hard, but is still failable.)

Strangely, years later, I beat it on the first try. I guess I was expecting the difficulty.

And while I enjoyed the game, I never did warm to the time gimmick. It was interesting in theory, but could've been much better with scalable time progression. Fast-forwarding in two hour or half day chunks just wasn't granular enough.
