I'm interested in what you write about when you sit down to play that you are almost indifferent to partner. I agree with you that partner needs some degree of support as opposed to lessons but I think s/he needs more.

My (limited) experience is that if I'm socially in tune w my partner we perform better. To me this was noticeable enough that I tracked it with my 2 major partners (one of each gender) for a couple of years. If we were able to eat toghether ahead of time and just chat (bridge or not) we performed about 0.5 IMP/bd better than if not.

This may say more about me than it does about them. In any case, I really make an effort to do this for the events that are most important to me.

Well, this is interesting indeed. MFP has a tendency to sit stone faced and never say a word, ever, not even when addressing questions...I think s/he would rather write it out on a piece of paper so as not to talk. With other partners, that is not the case - they are loquacious to the point of being annoying, to the opposition as well as to CHO ( ... )

Are you seriously suggesting that you have a 12 IMP advantage a priori in an evening KO when you've eaten with your partner? Might I suggest a seven-course meal from now on ( ... )

I think the 'sit down' chats before hand work well chemistry-wise. Thus, they are good for the partnership. Especially if there is some potential for angst among partners/teammates. There is something to be said for having a friendly (away from the table) partner ( ... )
