Theme identification

I've been trying to find a particular movie theme for a while now. I can hear it in my head (the main thumpy-thump part) quite clearly. However, I really cannot sing the music accurately enough to be able to convey the main tune. I also cannot for the life of me remember WHICH movie it came from. I think maybe a sports movie? It's a very ( Read more... )

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Fanfare for the Common Man. Not technically movie music but a lot of movies/commercials/etc do use it.

Nopers. I'm very familiar with that one (and the fact that it's also part of one of Copland's symphonies, #3 I think) and that's not it. The theme that stuck in my head is specifically movie music and goes at a steady, slightly faster tempo.

I don't know why, but the first song that came to mind when I read the description was the opening from 2001: A Space Odyssey :D I know that's not the song you're thinking of but now I have it stuck in my head.

Also Sprach Zarathustra is indeed a very fanfareish tune, but not what I'm thinking of. This is specifically movie music. It's so frustrating. :-P

You can try midomi.com - it lets you find music by humming what you remember at your computer!

I'll try it, but I can't sing the actual notes as much as the rhythm and accents. Wish me luck!

EDIT: Nope. I'm guessing that website probably has mostly pop music on it.

Could it be the theme from "The Right Stuff"? Thumpy-thump, fanfare, triplets. Melody is strings, though, backed by brass and snare, not really tympani.

Unfortunately, no. That's not it. The theme I'm looking for has very little strings, all brass in a "fa-do-do'-fa-do-la-fa-do-do'-fa-do" theme.

Funny thing is, it sounds a bit like the composer for your theme borrowed a bit from the Tschaikovsky Violin Concerto. :-)
