Technically, I have one more episode of Once Upon A Time to review before I can get around to complaining about Cinderella. Well, I've decided to complain about that story right now because it's my holiday gift to myself and there's nothing anyone can do about it

I love you. I really do. I'm at the end of this stuff too. I'm not sitting around waiting for someone to pick me, I'm gonna run over there and say, hey, I know what I'm doing! Thanks for this.

Your irritation comes from the fact that many dramatic versions of the story leave out an important part of the first half. When the prince comes around to hand out the invitations with his servant, he has the servant change places and clothes with him. The stepmother and stepsisters are out front fawning over the servant who they think is the prince. Meanwhile off to the side, Cinderella offer food and drink to the servant with no idea that he is the prince. It's there that he takes a liking to her seeing that she is kind to him without knowing that he is the prince.

The part of the story that is a problem in our age is that it is no longer necessary (or even advisable) for women to sit around and wait for a man to come and rescue them. Be your own hero and get out of the hellhole you are in. Most likely, no one is coming to rescue you.
