Lexapro

Does anyone have any experience with Lexapro? My doctor is reccomending it for some of my peri-menopausal issues and while the withdrawal symptoms seem to be rough, it otherwise seems fairly innocuous. Anyone have anything they'd like to share about the good, the bad and the ugly? You can always email me if you don't want to talk about it here ( Read more... )

Not Lexapro, but Cymbalta.
Keep in mind that getting off either of these has been compared to being worse than heroin withdrawl. (I stepped dosage down over 6 weeks, and still puked for another 3 weeks - if you start one of thewe, it's best to intend to do it for life, don't take a break for babies like I did)
They can help immensely, but you do need to weigh the cost/benefits.
Also, taking nsaids or asprin is bad while on them.

to clarify, to _try_ for babies.

I'm on Lexapro and have been for about a year and a half. I love it. It makes me content and happy to be a functional human being. I'm more than willing to talk about the good and bad stuff on LJ if you want.

I was on Lexapro for a while after my (former) job situation changed for the worse and my depression intensified to the point where the St. John's Wort was no longer having an effect. I asked my doctor for something that wouldn't make me gain a lot of weight (I have friends on Prozac and it made them gain a lot), so she put me on a low dose of Lexapro.

It helped a lot--I was able to get through the period of intensified crap and survive it without murdering anyone. Another friend had taken it and told me it "levels out your peaks and valleys," which is a good way to describe it.

However, I found that, in retrospect, it made me very blank--I didn't really feel anything for a long time. I wasn't experiencing any emotion at all for the most part--I was just kind of staring straight ahead. I was in a situation where that was okay, so it didn't matter at the time, but when I'm on SJW, I do have moments of true happiness and contentment--and those were notably absent when I was on Lexapro ( ... )

I've been on Lexapro for almost two years now and I still really like it. I've had almost no side effects from it (I yawned(!) a lot at first but that eventually went away.)

It also helped my sister a lot when she was dealing with her divorce which is why my doctor decided to try it for me when I started seeking treatment for my depression and anxiety. I think it very much helps control my depression and also mood swings that I used to have. I feel like a different person now than I used to be.
