Well, sounds like I have 6 weeks left - 4 weeks from the notice they have to give me, and 2 for the weeks of vacation I have left. Plus the unpaid wages they still owe, I suppose

So, I'm thinking of the name "T-Bone Technology" - Steak service at burger prices. Too cliche?
I like it. :) It's catchy and memorable, and it may well earn you some extra points with the "barbie" crowd, too.
A call-out computer troubleshooting company. Probably start at $50/hr (maybe $70 a/h?)
I really have no idea what prices would be advisable. You basically did this same thing in your old job, too, didn't you? What did your company charge then? What do your would-be competitors charge?
What sort of point-of-difference should I consider?"No fix, no fee" sounds dangerous to me, especially since the definition of "fix" will depend on the customer. Some will likely ask for the impossible

Well, that's the thing. We charged $149/hr - but we tried to focus mostly on business, rather than home users. Some home users were still willing to pay that, but I know that a lot of guys in at least one area were charging $40 - though we had to fix some of their stuff up, so... I dunno.
I figure the "no fix, no fee" thing would have to have some conditions to it - like... if the problem is with your ISP, or whatever. It might be better as "No charge for repeat visits for the same issue", but "no fix, no fee" is easier to advertise. But you're right - some will likely ask for the impossible.
I should probably clarify, though, that the times on the "after hours" thing were more of a closing time (instead of 5pm) - not an opening time. Too bad you can't edit polls -_-
I almost never read the local paper, so that option actually didn't occur to me ... but that's why I put the "Other" option there - thanks.

*nods* I really have no experience there, I'm afraid. You probably don't want to charge too much until you've built up a good reputation, but OTOH you need to be able to pay your own bills.
Are there any start-up advisors you could talk to? Someone at your local job agency, perhaps?

Yeah, I didn't you think you meant you'd be closed before 7pm (or 9pm), but I thought you meant that you'd still offer service after that time

I don't know about start-up advisors... never even considered the existence of such things... though I'll have a look. Possibly an accountant... Hmm.....
