I must admit, the new versions I've heard so far don't seem as good as the originals. I'm not convinced it was a good idea. I like this though. Have you heard Inhaler btw? (Bono's son's band). They've got something good.
Yeah... most of the new versions seem pointless at best, and a lot of them actively annoy me. If they were going to revisit their old songs, I'm not sure why they didn't take the chance to do something more creative with them - the handful of experimental ones are by far the most interesting.
I haven't sought out Inhaler's stuff because the whole idea of their kids being grown up and famous just weirds me out, to be honest! The only track I've heard is the one Bono chose for Desert Island Discs, which I didn't care for.
Yeah, I've always liked U2s weird stuff like Zooropa and the Passengers album. I'd prefer to hear some stuff like that or even some chilled out atmospheric songs. I'm not sure of their direction at the moment. Currently reading Bono's autobiography which is a good read.
