happy new year, everyone!

fact or fiction;

No matter how far away I look,

It will always come back to you

They could never leave the house without people staring.

‘That wouldn’t happen if you’d wear something more ordinary,’ Jaejoong used to tease.

Yunho had smiled wryly.

How he wished… Then he wouldn’t have to do all this acting.

‘Something wrong?’ Jaejoong probes, coming nearer, closer than ever.

Yunho shakes his head, suddenly wary of the crowd.

His arm slides from around his shoulder back to his own side.

Painfully obvious. If only for the way Jaejoong had been leaning against him.

Actions shrouded in secrecy.

Yunho catches Jaejoong’s fingers before connecting their hands discreetly under the sleeves of their oversized trench coats.

A familiar face flashes by along a string of people.

He releases his hand immediately.

‘Hyung!’ Yunho calls.

Jaejoong drops his gaze before looking up, the only sign that he’d been let down.

He glances at Yunho, vaguely reading the unease on his face.

He had both hands stuck in his pocket, and you could tell that he was looking for something in the weather to talk about.

The man Yunho had recognized approaches, offering a hand to either of them.

Yunho takes it with the one that had just clung to him, smiling graciously.

Cold, Jaejoong thinks, unaware that he had been clenching his fist.

Even if Yunho had noticed, he was perfectly capable of disguising what he was feeling.

He walks the rest of their evening with his eyes to the ground. Chest tight.
Not saying anything.

He had stopped for a second or two.

‘Kiss me here,’ Jaejoong had demanded. Here, in the middle of the street where who knows who might have been watching.

It would’ve been a crime had it been someone else but-

‘See? This is who you are. This is the wall between us that neither of us can do anything about.’

________ silence. The sort that rushes in to fill loud thoughts.

He moves quickly; dips his head and wraps the meeting of their lips with the top of his jacket.

Words shouted in whispers.

Where were you when I wanted to?

Though somewhere in the back of his mind he would have liked to do this at home and not in public.

Not out in the open where he had always felt so vulnerably exposed.

It could've been some kind of sad movie romance if Jaejoong had not stiffened under his hood, tasting of hard booze and moving against him like a piece of wood.

‘Enough,’ Jaejoong says, pulling back and still sounding quite mad.

‘I’m not angry already,’ he growls, clearly meaning the opposite. ‘I just want you to take me home.’

Which Yunho had acquiesced.

They drive back with Jaejoong in the passenger seat fast asleep on his lap, drama forgotten.

And Yunho thinks it would be nice, in the solitude of his car, to pretend that they weren’t so different.

That it was enough to love and be loved…

No more hiding.

10.12.2011

Something about him had changed with the season.

Yunho had been toying with his cell phone for the remainder of their showcase and he wondered now if it had to do with nerves or Jaejoong.

After all, the risks were very real.

‘Sometimes we do the contrary of what we want to do because we wanna do what we want to do too much,’ Changmin had concluded in the aftermath of one of his breakups.

An unintentional contradiction. So very human.

Yunho had spoken with his head bowed. ‘I have to make amends…how?’

‘Start with the ones you love.’

Make this moment.

With that, he exits the dressing room to wait for the better half of his Greek tragedy to show up.

As if on cue, Jaejoong tumbles into the narrow hallway, barefooted after his final performance wearing a mysterious curve to his mouth and those blinking eyes to die for, barely dressed in a sleeveless shirt while tugging on the pair of expensive jeans he had borrowed from Yunho several nights ago, and for that exquisite moment where they are the only two people in the vicinity,

Yunho turns to Jaejoong with;

'Kiss me here,' he demands, not caring if anyone would see, staring intently at Jaejoong's lips before shifting his gaze to his pupils, which pool with shock and then hesitance.

Something he’d never thought he'd get from Jaejoong.

It must have felt exactly like the time when they'd stood beneath that street lamp, Jaejoong on one side of that wall and him on the other and that wave of disappointment about to slam against him

when Jaejoong turns on Yunho with;

'Tongue or no tongue,' he asks jokingly, crashing into Yunho before an answer and plunging them towards the nearest waiting room laughing madly thinking: We will always be the exception.

You are the only one I want for me.
