So, as you might have noticed if you're reading this, I suck at updating this journal. I think about stuff, and then never get around to actually typing it out

Okay, I'll be honest. I really hate the fact that people are cross posting their tweets to their LJ's. As Gillan said, it's annoying to read a bunch of half-convo's out of context.
I mean, sure... It's their journal, they can do what they want & more power to them, but I don't have to like it or read it. So I don't.
I'll read an actual post, but I don't read tweets.
I was looking at it as more of a micro-posting tool. Is it more of a hybrid of journal and IM then? I wasn't even thinking of it as a tool for conversations.

I started using Twitter for the same reason that you want too. It's alright, and can be fun for a while. One thing though... LJ tweets are very annoying, since it doesn't filter out @replies.
If you have friends/family who use Facebook over LJ, I highly recommend Twitter. I don't use Facebook very often anymore, but there is a Facebook application that updates your status based on your Tweets. This does filter out @replies, so there's no out of context posts. I get some comments from Facebook based on my Tweets. :D

If they were actually Micro-Updates, then I'd read them.

I leave my tweets off of LJ to keep the content on each separate, but I don't mind tweet LJ posts if they're behind a cut.
