Normal-ity.

I have reached NormalI nearly didn't make it. I was ready to go, but I couldn't find my cell phone. I searched the 2 places I usually keep it with no luck. Short story is, I left it plugged into my monitor at work charging. (It's a razr, which uses usb.) After a dash to work to get it, and the itinerary that I also left on my desk (as well as new ( Read more... )

This seems to break cashiers when said food doesn't include those items naturally.

This is one of the things that pisses me off about lots of UIs. If there is a a button to say "not this", make sure it works even if that isn't usually included in the order. A good UI is something someone can use even if they don't know what the options are.

When I was working at Menards there P.O.S. system would drive me bonkers, I know how systems get like that but that is a case where some tweaking would save so much time.

Ok, rant over.

Hm. I didn't consider that it was a UI issue. I thought it was a U problem. But a UI issue would explain why I've seen this response from different places at different times.

if i was writing cash register software, i would make it as dummy proof as possible because the person should be focusing on the person, not on the cash register.

Fixed. Maybe I should have done a preview before posting. I forgot to encode the greater-than and less-than symbols that I was using in a non-html way.

I agree that it's a UI problem, however to combat this, my hubby generally goes with "lettuce only" or you know, gives the positive of what he DOES want.

My favorite when I was a waitress, there wasn't a specific button to eliminate things, you had to type it in. Guh. Though that was years ago. The best instructions someone ever gave to me was regarding eggs over easy - "no slimy stuff, no crunchy stuff."

My big thing is when I order with no mayo. If I do it at Wendy's, it comes with Tangy Sauce. And if I do it at In-N-Out Burger, it comes with Spread. And if I do it at Taco Bell, it comes with Baja Sauce. Even "no white stuff" doesn't seem to produce the desired effect. How can I just say "I don't want the mayo-based substance" and have it come across right?
