Do you want a legal perspective on "negligence", or is that missing the point entirely?

If you're willing to give it, I'm willing to read it :) I'd guess that the legal principles around negligence have a particular philosophy about blame behind them, so it could be interesting to think about what those are. Like, maybe there are circumstances in which the law doesn't punish negligence, because it doesn't consider it blameworthy in some cases, or something.
