Yup. Come this time next week (eep!), the UberMaus'll be pullin' up them Texas stakes and truckin' out to Connecticut New England (and starting work on a Master's in British & American lit).

New horizons, right? Trouble is, I don't know much of anybody in that particular part of the world, though I suppose this will be remedied sooner or later.

wow, exciting! I have an MA in British lit myself (and am working on the sequel). I went from a familiar university where I knew tons of people and had lived for 5 years to a strange university where I knew no one. It's exciting though. I look forward to hearing how things go for you.

Regarding making friends, I recommend going to any department social events (even if they're stupid) and approaching anyone else who looks new (and preferably doesn't look stupid) plus, if possible, throwing a party at your house at the end of the first month of school and inviting all the grad students in your department. Worked for me! Plus I got invited to parties for the rest of the year when people reciprocated my invitation.
