Journal Announcement

Being without television signals or cable in this valley I live in, I recently purchased a subscription to Netflix. So I guess I'm going to be seeing a lot of movies now, since I'll have to watch a lot to get my $20/month worth. To keep my brain from getting fried, I'm posting quickie reviews on mausnotes. Recently reviewed: Harry Potter and Blue Velvet.

I applaud the idea of posting reviews, but am curious as to how they prevent your brain from getting fried... you mean that posting relieves the tedium of constant movie-watching or that when you know you're going to be reviewing something, you watch it in a more active way?

Um, the second one. Plus, I can also nurse along the mostly delusional belief that I'm providing a useful service to humanity, rather than just sitting on my ass for a couple of hours, which is definitely worth it if the price is only writing about thirty ill-considered words at the end of it all.

Well, from one English major to another, I found your review of Blue Velvet a little reductive. Besides the fact that compared to some other Lynch flicks (see: Mulholland Dr.), Blue Velvet is incredibly cohesive. I would like to see, though, an essay on Lynch's fetish with lounge singers and with the recorded voice.

I'll get right on that, professor Poison. I've seen Muholland Drive, and in the famous words of Mr. Gumby, my brain hurts.
