Ask the UberMaus: Robots.

Dear Ubermaus,
I was just writing you to tell you about a new short film idea that I'm pretty psyched about. Let me ask you this: What was Reality Bites missing? If you said, "A robot," then you are correct.
I'm planning on doing a 20-30 minute film about three ( Read more... )

So that my partner can get Bloomberg TV and CNN, we have a cable package that includes a lot of wacky TV channels. One of these, as we discovered last weekend, actually shows boxing matches between topless women very late on Saturday night.

If they did make an actual porno version, I bet they would call it Tight Club.

I think it's sad that people are more interested in porn than in movies about robots.

By the way, this whole robot movie sounds like a winner to me. I'll be there. Be there eatin' popcorn.

Over and out,

This is what we intellectual snobs like to call a "false dichotomy"

Truly, and I will stand behind my beliefs, truly I believe that the Democrats would be the robot-haters. Republicans seem to love all kinds of automation, as it often goes hand in hand with an efficient Big Business. Their love of mechanical things seems to extend even to the highest office in the land, the President himself who, but for his constant verbal faux pas, one might think to be a robot. Democrats, on the other hand, love to be gushy about protecting workers' rights and would seem to, for one reason or another, prefer humanity over automatons. In a nutshell, "Rage Against the Machine"...Republicans or Democrats? That's what I thought you'd say.

Yeah, but we're talking sexy and cool robots, not your standard Welding robot. From watching Disney movies about Robots, I know that they can do stuff way faster than humans, which means they'd be awesome guitar players. Also, they wouldn't need jobs, so they'd be free to sit around all day smoking joints and giving the plastic-and-steel middle finger to the Man. You think Ashcroft would like that? No freaking way, dude. He'd crap his pants.

No, Robots are an ultra-cool underpriveledged minority, exactly the kind of people that give Democrats that Special Tingly Feeling.

Strange you should mention this, because I was thinking about having the robot as a member of a band and the final scene would be the robot and his band totally rocking out, but that might be a little beyond me as a fledgling filmmaker. Also to note, the guy who's going to be playing the robot is an excellent guitarist.

Possibly the most aurally enjoyable result of Reality Bites with Robots:

Janeane Garofalobot

(pronunciation hint: not "Janeane Garofalo-Bot" but "Janeane Garofa-Lobot")
