Go with Kit to his families, as it is what you had planned, and fly over to see your Dad for New Years?

This seems a good idea. And could you take the Eurostar/internal French trains instead of flying?

this seems like a good compromise.

Any alternative to flying? How are the train prices?

think I found a way, flying to Paris and taking the TGV ( super fast french train) from there that is reasonable.

Sorry to hear your dad is unwell again, Fee. If YOU honestly feel you have to go then you can't NOT go for the sake of sparing anyone else's feelings.

I can't make your decision for you but I will say that Jeff and I have spent a Christmas apart - when he desperately wanted to see his family but I just could not face a family Christmas after the Nightmare Horribly Upsetting Family (mine) Christmas I'd had the year before (which effectively put me off xmas family gatherings for good) - and it wasn't a big deal. And that's saying something for a couple who don't see that much of each other due to my studies. Jeff REALLY wanted to see his family and I REALLY didn't want to do the family Christmas thing. We both felt unable to compromise... but it was fine.

I was going to suggest the exact same thing Stego did. That being said, if you feel you can do it, there's nothing wrong with spending Christmas apart. I'm sure Kit's family will understand that you want to spend time with your dad.

Best of luck to your dad.

Nothing to contribute but sympathies and good wishes. Sorry to hear he's back in hospital.
