Field Trip Day

Class field trip all the way up to Dia:Beacon in New York. Ummm... now I like to think of myself as a somewhat a fan of modern/contemporary art, but some of this is just weird. I'm not either an artist nor in any way a qualified critic but let me just complain anyways ( Read more... )

I saw it St. Petersburg, I think. Fred Sandback is fairly obscure and I only know of him because I had an art teacher in high school who loved him - I think he is a minimalist but I could well be wrong.

I don't get a lot of it either. Does it make much difference that I don't "get" Jackson Pollack? For whatever reason, graphic art seems to be closer to a first impression thing than music or literature. I don't tend to give it a second chance to capture me.

Some things just grab my attention from the start. I like how Roy Lichtenstein made me think about comic book art in a different way. Or maybe I just like them big dots and dramatic images he painted.

Are Picasso's simple line drawings better than the kind of stuff John Lennon did? Well...
