Sometimes I almost write something on social media, however after so much time spent lecturing/performing in front of other humans I find myself deleting everything in my text box because I decide it could be misconstrued as pandering/self indulgent/weak/stupid by my own evaluation. Putting too much out there is a concern a lot of us have. I think it helps prevent writer's block to know that you don't have to publish and if you do, you can post something quietly in an out of the way place (say the friend's only entry on LJ.)
If you have a problem knowing what's appropriate like I do it helps to allow yourself some time between writing and publishing.
Also, I've noticed that people really like to hear about other people's lives. Even the difficult stuff. Other people's problems are always easier to bear than your own. And if people don't want to read it, then it's easy enough for them just to ignore it. It's not like you're waving it in their face and demanding they read it.
Unless it's something that could really get you in trouble or you don't want anyone to find ever, I'd guess you're pretty safe.
