The entire house smells of butter and almonds becuase I decided to channel my inner Martha and bake Almond cookies....damn good ones too.

I was vegging in front of the TV last night, and besides being reminded how bad most of the shows are, I was reminded of a dream I had last week

I dreamt I was on a date with David Caruso, aka Horatio Cane on ( Read more... )

I prefer the Sarantium ones (Sailing to Sarantium and Lord of Emperors). I think Kay really came into his own when he started setting his stuff in a world very close to the European middle ages - Lions of al-Rassan is also very good.

Hi! Great to see you on here as well :)

Damn I thought Earl Grey and I had a serious thing going...
Men! If you don't mind I'll be willing to share him with you, but Vinny is all mine!

And thank you for the recommendations. I am definitely going to be making additions to my amazon wish list.

I have recently really enjoyed The Time Traveller's Wife (now out in paperback).

Have you read His Dark Materials? It kicks Harry Potter's arse into next year.

OK, try Ringworld or the Mote In Gods Eye (Larry Niven).

These are all fiction, since most of he nonfic I've been reading lately probably wouldn't interest you... *cough*Buffy*cough*...

Okay, so fiction:

I've been reading a lot of Bharati Mukherjee lately.

Also just finished two Iain Pears books that I quite liked as well ("Instance of the Fingerpost" and "The Dream of Scipio").

Allen Kurzweil's "Case of Curiosities" was another recent great read.

As for fantasy/sci-fi/steampunk type stuff, China Mieville's "The Scar" and "Perdido Street Station" were fabulous.

There is nothing wrong with Buffy! I'm still intrigued by that European Journal with the article on Spike.

Amazon is going to impoverish me, but at least my mind will be richer, right?

Not just an article, but a whole issue of the Journal! Don't worry, I'll be shouting it from the hilltops when it comes out :D

Amazon's wondeful, and they've got a surprisingliy good recommendations system most of the time, at least for books.

But if you don't want to be TOO impoverished, try the bookfinder.com hub instead, or go directly to Alibris for (usually) the best deals.
