Gang, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, really I do, its just that the drama this past week over the government shutdown was a joke. The Republicans wanted to appear like they were trying to do whatever they could to energize their base, the Democrats wanted to show they were doing everything possible to save all that is good to motivate their ( Read more... )

I'm not really sure how it will go, except that the longer we're in denial the worse its likely to be. Yes I think those 3 programs will need revamping, yet there are so many other lower hanging fruits we need to attend to first. Corporate & Individual Tax codes, ridiculous oil/corn/wheat subsidies, the V-22 Osprey project, the occupation of Iraq...they all need to be looked at. Unfortunately everyone of them has a conesquence so we'll have to review that as well ( ... )

Well said. I know all the cuts hurt everyone, but what else can be done? A disguting amount of people live off the government when they don't even need to. What more can be done to fix the budget? It's scary to think the debt has only increased. What hope could we possibly have? America isn't getting any smaller! I suppose all we can do is pray and hope for the best.

Listen, come what may most of us will adapt. We just need to be honest about where the budget is.

It seems to be a big mess in The US right now. Sorry it is like that. It will be many hard years to get that dept away. Shouldn't some money be saved from the military?

True. I didn’t account for inflation. The numbers themselves don’t worry so much as their proportions to our GDP and, what was the gist of this post, the truly tiny amount of last weeks agreed on cuts. My post was more about how people rush to rally to their ‘side’ without thinking about the picture outside of their own perspective.

IMHO - We’re going to need cuts ( Attrition and redesign are my favorite vehicles.) and tax increases ( Consumption bases and tightening of exceptions again are my bandwagon) and I get irritated by the drama/rhetoric that serves as a distraction from the problems at hand. Last week the behavior from the wings was ridiculous. So I threw some stuff out there to try to get people to think about the issue at hand.

Everything under this line is me statistic diving. :I briefly went surfing for a chart that would shows debt in proportion to GDP. You’re right finding a credible source is difficult ( ... )
