Jessica turned 18 today. Just think she’ll be able to vote in next years elections. About 30 minutes ago, shortly after lunch, Maryland I experienced the biggest* earthquake (5.8 is what they’re saying.) of my life. Happy 18th the Miss Jessica!

Glad to hear you made it through the earthquake. What an odd thing to have happen.

Biggest and most intense are both equally correct.

Wow! 18? You must be proud! That is a big birthday though, I am not surprised you sprouted a white eye brow hair.

I hope that you're all safe and warm through the hurricane this weekend! It seems quite serious.

Thank you. It appears the Irene had diminished a great deal and its path it carrying it further up the coast, towards New England, then will threaten us here. I'm grateful for both facts as it will only mean heavy rain for my part of town and it shouldn't mess with the folks up north too badly either.

Hurricanes why I'll probably always live at least 75 miles inland, as long as I live on the East Coast ( Probably the rest of my life.). I see these video clips of families cutting plywood, then rushing to board up their windows and can't help thinking " That looks too much like work. "

That does sound like too much work!! I guess all we have to worry about here is the Thames flooding. Which is a major threat, so major that they have a massive flood prevention system about 5 miles up stream.
