wOOt!  I can't believe FOX moved with the times and took into account DVR and online viewing - I really thought it would take them years to make that jump.  I laughed when I read that FOX execs really liked the show, esp the second half of the season.  Umm ...  you mean the part you didn't stick

So wait -- are you saying the show didn't hit its stride right away because the suits were messing with the early episodes?

The suits made him can his original pilot. Then they made him make the first 5 eps 'stand alones.' They wanted a procedural - Echo will be X this week and take care of problem Y. Rinse, repeat. Procedurals exist and can be done well, but that's not Whedon's strong suit.

I am pleased on multiple fronts. First off, that Joss gets another season to expand the 'verse. Buffy needed a starter season to find its feet, and I'm so happy Dollhouse will get the opportunity to really shine. I'm also dead chuffed that the online viewing was cited as a reason for renewing because I deliberately missed watching every Friday so I could go to Fox's website and make my viewing count. And finally, I am really pleased that Fox is making Joss cut the budget as a condition of renewal. More dialgoue! Less extraneous motorcycle races! Perhaps they'll kill off Topher! Everybody wins!

I agree - Buffy had some good eps in season 1, but not all of them were, and it wasn't till season 2 that it took off. I'm hoping the same for DH. I'm all for less motorcycles too (do you ever wonder if that was ironic: "You want a cheesy action pilot? I'll show you cheesy action pilot!").
